As a film fan junior high school student in Illinois, Nicole Russin-McFarland studied music and dreamed of composing the film scores for her own movies but put off the goal for over a decade once at 13, she began contributing to media publications.
She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin at 19, making her way to Manhattan in hopes of transitioning into entertainment and food journalism. Russin-McFarland’s celebrity interviews and food articles have been published in mainstream media worldwide from Australia to the United States. At 21, while freelancing for The New York Daily News personal finance section, she was signed to her first modeling agency in New York City, a time period during which she appeared in hair styling magazines, a hair product box, worked for Pepsi, and modeled for Redken, among other brands. She published her first cookbook, since repackaged into The Comeback Cookbook, a little over one year later. From 2011 to 2016, she authored a popular ELLE Spain blog.
In 2015, she formally adapted her small book publishing company into Lucky Pineapple Books + Films, quickly beginning work on the real meets drawn cartoon animated film, The Eyes of Old Texas, and beginning the planning process for her second untitled animated short. On her website, Russin-McFarland documents her long awaited career change in film and music and continues to interview celebrities and those who inspire her.
As they say, the rest is history.
