NOTE: Radio host Trey Harrell took the Q+A originally based on the author Q+A.
What inspired you to become a radio host?
Well when I started my practice I was looking for ways to get my name out there and grow the practice. However, it has turned into much more than that. I really enjoy sitting down each week with Charlie James on 1250 WTMA each Tuesday morning and diving into the various issues we discuss.
Why did you want to become a lawyer?
Public service has been something that is very important in my family. Whether it was my Father serving as Speaker of the House of South Carolina or my Grandfather serving as the Highway Commissioner, I was taught at an early age that you are responsible for making your home a better place to be. As a result of these lessons, I decided to go to Law School and use the law to make the Lowcountry a better place to call home.
What is the hardest part of a law career?
The long hours! My work keeps me away from my family a lot more that I would like. However, I’m extremely blessed to have a very understanding and patient wife.
What do you hope people gain from your show?
A little better understanding of the legal or political issues we discuss. While what I say on the radio should not be construed as legal advice and they should consult always consult their own lawyer, I hope it familiarizes folks with the issues so that they can make more informed decisions.
When you were a kid, what were your favorite books?
As a young kid, I loved the Berenstain Bears of all things. I remember my mother ordered me an entire box full of them. I have really great memories of reading those with her.
What is your advice to people who are not excited about listening to radio programs?
I’m sorry. If you don’t like what we are discussing then call in at 843.556.1250 and ask a question or make a comment to get us talking about something else.
Why should people listen to your show?
Well, we have a good time. We talk about things that people, especially WTMA’s listeners, want us to discuss. Besides, you never know who is going to call in. We’ve had everyone from Sen. Tim Scott and Rep. Katie Arrington to the Chairman of the County Democrat Party. Its always entertaining.
