What inspired you on this book?
I’m a huge admirer of the Japanese culture as well as a big cat person. And I wanted to create this world that would remind people of Kung Fu Panda. I thought it would be cool if I created a story of Cat versus Dog and I would use samurai and ninja with a young and hot-headed cat as the protagonist but this cat has to not only face enemies but who he is and the power he possesses within.
Why did you want to become a writer?
It has always been a calling. I was so creative with my words as a kid and stories that people always told me that I was going to or should be a writer. I love to create stories through words. And through words you can create worlds. There’s a special power in being a writer.
What was the hardest part of creating this book?
The hardest part was trying to keep the story as Japanese-esque as I could. I wasn’t going for true authenticity because it’s not set in actual Japan. I was trying to keep the mannerisms, certain dialogues and scenes as close to the theme as possible. But since this is a fantasy novel, I wasn’t too worried about it.
What do you hope people gain from reading it?
As with all my books, I hope it gives people a sense of escape. I hope that the stories are somehow relatable in a sense to what they go through in their lives.
When you were a kid, what were your favorite books?
I read a lot of Goosebumps. Some Star Wars, mostly movie novelizations, TMNT, Stephen King.
What is your advice to people who are not excited about reading?
Reading will take you where movies and TV shows don’t. They (Movies/TV shows) leave out so much in-depth description that a book has. You can get lost easily in a book the same way you could a video game. But a book is much more magical. There’s not a book out there that someone won’t enjoy. I love certain historical fiction, it’s more entertaining and educational than an actual history book and fun, too. It makes you feel like you’re actually there instead of in a classroom.
Why should we buy your book?
That’s a good question that I don’t have a proper answer for but, all I can say is please take a chance. I’m fairly new to the literary world and I’m doing this all on my own-writing, editing, publishing. I’m taking a big risk at failure and I’ve yet to truly be successful. Even if I’m not, I’ll keep writing. Whether I’m good or bad or extremely terrible, I’ll let you be the judge. If you don’t like it then I hope you will like my other books. Because all I really want is to share my love of fantasy and stories with people. I want to send them to worlds they can never dream of going in real life. I want them to peek into the world on which I live. Like I said, I want to help them escape, even if only for awhile.
